BODY STAT TESTING

Progress with a purpose. Confidence in your results is the greatest motivation for continual improvement.

LACTATE THRESHOLD TESTING

Find your optimal training zones to improve aerobic endurance performance today!

Every athlete wants to train more efficiently, and now there is a program offered to help you make the most of your training time.

When athletes exercise, their muscles produce lactate, and as the exercise intensifies so does the rate of lactate production. When lactate production exceeds the body's ability to eliminate it, then fatigue is imminent. This balancing point between lactic acid production and elimination is known as the Lactate Threshold. Without some knowledge of an athlete's Lactate Threshold, a highly effective aerobic endurance training program cannot be developed.

The measurement of lactate in the blood at various workloads will provide information to help the athlete and their coach better understand how their individual body responds to the physical demands of exercise. The results of testing can help to establish target heart rate zones, custom tailor a workout, or set a race pace to achieve the best performance. Adirondack Health Medical Fitness Center coaches will use these results to design individualized training plans to assist athletes in reaching their full potential.

With this addition of performance testing to the broad spectrum of services offered enhances our ability to better serve the athletic population.

The off-season winter months are one of the best times to have your threshold tested. The aerobic base built during these months is an important determining factor in your on season performance.

Test the intensity of your aerobic base training to provide the maximum benefit in the least amount of time. Any endurance athlete may take advantage of this service, regardless of ability. This testing is not only for elite athletes; it is for anyone who wants to train more efficiently. Runners can be tested on a treadmill and cyclists on a stationary bike. In addition to your test, coaching services are offered to make the best use of your results.

Cost:

$150; $100 for a follow-up test for member

$180; $140 for a follow-up test for nonmembers

LIPID SCREENING

To assess your risk of developing cardiovascular disease and to monitor treatment of unhealthy lipid levels.

Lipids are a group of fats and fat-like substances that are important constituents of cells and sources of energy. A lipid panel measures the level of specific lipids in the blood.

Two important lipids, cholesterol and triglycerides, are transported in the blood by lipoproteins. Each type of lipoprotein contains a combination of cholesterol, triglyceride, protein, and phospholipid molecules. The particles measured with a lipid panel are classified by their density into high-density lipoproteins (HDL), Low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL).

Monitoring and maintaining healthy levels of these lipids is important in staying healthy. While the body produces the cholesterol needed to function properly, the source for some cholesterol is the diet. Eating too much of foods that are high in saturated fats and trans unsaturated fats or having an inherited predisposition can result in a high level of cholesterol in the blood. The extra cholesterol may be deposited in plaques on the walls of blood vessels. Plaques can narrow or eventually block the opening of blood vessels, leading to hardening of the arteries and increasing the risk of numerous health problems, including heart disease and stroke.

With lipid screening our Registered Dietitians and Fitness Coaches will be able to better create individualized healthy lifestyle programs. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an important part of heart health, in treating high cholesterol and your overall health and wellness.
