To help cancer patients and survivors manage treatment side effects and cancer recovery through unique evidence-based yoga methods.

 

40% of the world's population will face cancer in their lifetime. Research has shown that yoga can reduce the side effects of cancer and its treatments and reduce the risk of recurrence. But cancer survivors and patients need specific support from their yoga professionals. Our global network of trained teachers, resources, research initiatives, and strong partnerships are focused on providing the quality of support those cancer survivors need and want.

A yoga class that is a blend of aerobic yoga poses combining bodily movements with eastern and western elements of dance, tai chi, and martial arts. If you love to move, practice yoga, get an aerobic workout, build strength and experience something different, this is the class for you!

POWER SCULPT WITH DEB REILLY

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 - 9 a.m.

 

A low impact resistance training class designed to tone, strengthen and define major muscle groups. From beginner to advanced athletes, this will provide a total body workout, burn calories and increase fitness levels in no time! Simple moves using bodyweight, hand weights, resistance bands, stability balls, and gliding discs will be incorporated to add to the fun!

WATER EXERCISE WITH JIM GRANT

 Saturdays, 10 - 11 a.m.

 

The low impact, total body workout is an aquatic exercise program that utilizes over 50 different moves, including water yoga to provide a non-jarring, full-body workout. The program is perfect for members who might have arthritis, or other joint challenges, or for those who want an alternative to traditional land-based routines.

SPIN WITH TISH BIESEMEYER

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 - 7:45 a.m.

 

A spin class that touches on endurance, strength and cardiovascular training. Pedal through hill climbs, sprints, and many other challenging drills and exercises to the tempo of the perfect upbeat music. All levels are welcome and encouraged.

SPIN AND STRETCH WITH ERIK LEWISH

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8 - 9 a.m. 

 

A thirty-minute vigorous spin with intervals of speed, hills, and endurance followed by thirty-minutes of stretching. You will burn calories, get the heart pumping, sweat and build heat to perfectly prime the body for stretching.

 

This class will take you from a higher intensity workout on the bike, to downshifting onto the mat right into stretching that focuses on stretching and lengthening for cyclists.

This class welcomes adults of all abilities who want to improve their swimming technique.

This is a beginner’s yoga class for those who are just starting out. A perfect class for seniors, or anyone who is looking for a gentle stretch. The class will move through a series of poses that will improve your mobility. The only thing that is required is an open mind and a willingness to have fun while trying something new.

 

Joan has been practicing yoga for over ten years. The integration of yoga into her own personal life has allowed her to become stronger, more flexible and fearless, both on and off the mat.

Join Erik this fall for his spectacular group fitness class that will evolve and challenge you with every class. This class will introduce new elements of fitness encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone, try new things and learn how to use different equipment and parts of the gym. The class will focus on full-body strengthening and you will leave each session feeling like you learned something new and challenged yourself in different ways. When you continuously stick to the same routine your body adapts quickly and can result in a training plateau. Erik’s class will continuously be new and fresh, allowing you to improve your overall performance. Pranayama, meditation and proper asana alignment set to a flow of beautiful music create calm and peace amidst the haste and din of our modern world. 

YIN YOGA WITH JOAN KELLEHER

Thursdays, 4 - 5 p.m.

 

This slow-paced gentle class is a meditative approach to yoga with poses that are held for longer periods of time ranging from 3 - 5 minutes.

Yin yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body - the tendons, fascia, and ligaments - with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Find stillness in the mind and body through Yin Yoga.

Traci has taken her knowledge from her own endeavors in endurance bike racing and training and brought it to the spin studio. Her love for biking is in distance and elevation! So get ready to work. This is a spin class that will definitely push your limits.  A hard interval-style workout that will test your limits and leave you feeling like you just accomplished something impossible. Come ready to sweat! Each class will end with stretching and/or foam rolling. All levels are welcome and encouraged.

Come join yoga instructor Anna for a total - whole-body - yoga strengthening session. This class will ignite the burn while incorporating light mindful movement in order to leave you feeling refreshed and empowered...and maybe a bit sore! Come as you are, leave as you become. All levels welcome.

 

 

Anna Rissberger is a Lake Placid native who has, through her own practice, come to embrace the underlying need for mindful balance in all aspects of life. She recently completed her RYT 200hr fall of 2018, however, she has been developing her own personal practice for over five years. Anna is an advocate for coming as you are each day with an open heart, mind, and body, and allowing the practice to take you places you may never have thought you could ever go, on your mat and beyond. Anna is very excited to begin teaching at the Adirondack Health Fitness Center - teaching, growing and sharing her love for this beautiful life long practice we call yoga.

ATHLETIC PROGRESSION WITH KIM BEACH

Fridays at 4 p.m. Starting November 1

End your workout week with a class that will reset your body and prime you for another week to come. Join Kim Beach, CPT with her fresh new range of motion and deep stretch class. The design of this class is to make all the work you have been doing elsewhere in the gym more effective, escalate athletic performance, promote recovery, healing, and longevity. You will begin to increase the range of motion to generate more power and promote the efficiency of functional movements through improved position and posture. You will optimize range of motion with strengthening ligaments and tendons while simultaneously removing excess fascia through specific stretching routines. You will accelerate recovery by way of the natural release of hyaluronic aid while simultaneously resetting the central nervous system. Translation - you will recover more quickly from all the workouts you did during the week so that you will be fresh to start again the next.
